Open-Heart Surgery
About 40,000 children are born with a heart defect each year. Without treatment, twenty percent of children with heart defects will die within the first weeks of life. Most of these children can benefit from surgery even if the defect is severe. When surgery is necessary, many medical treatments are available to help the heart work properly. Nearly twice as many children die each year from congenital heart defects than from all childhood cancers combined. Congenital heart disease defects are the most common birth defects and the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths in the world.
Thousands of children in China die each year from congenital heart defects. Because of the severity of the defect, the absence of early detection or the lack of available medical intervention, many of the children of China never reach their first birthday. China has about five million children with congenital heart defects.
Every year China Mission has provided surgical teams to complete open-heart surgeries in China. We would like to continue providing operations for the poor suffering children, but we need your help. It only takes $2,000.00 to provide a dying child with a chance to live a healthy life.
Please consider the needs of these poor children. When you sponsor a poor child for surgery, we will send you an information sheet on the child with a photo. We will keep you updated on the progress of the child before and after the surgery.
